Nice, although this sucks:

the first NV17 based cards are most likely to be equipped with SDRAM, however.

Still, if they have the same Z-occlusion detection and crossbar memory controller that the GF3 has, it might not be so bad.

Actually my thoughts are more towards which features they will not use in the MX. Reduce number of rendering pipelines, loose its 4 textures/1 pass ability, slower T&L, etc. are all possible features that could go.

So your talking about a neutered celery chip geforce 3 right? And why would a person want to pay thru the nose for that one.

dolphins, they wont be paying through the nose for that.

If you look at the price differential between the GF2 Ultra and the GF2MX, it should be about the same sort of ratio for the GF3MX to the normal GF3.

These cards offer dual-vga support, so I'll have no choice but to go with them.

I still don't understand why Nvidia doesn't offer twin-view options on a high-end card. There must be a market for it. I hate being limited to a lower powered card just because I need dual-vga. I'd much rather have a full blown Geforce3 or Radeon.

Agreed. It's mindboggling, especially as this feature is being used more and more.

haha nvidia, get real, DDR will be hardly more expensive to produce than SDR by the autumn.
we don't want your video cards spoilt anymore, hasn't the Radeon taught you anything?

TravisBickle,

Yeah, DDR memory is getting cheaper all the time, but as far as the MX's memory architecture goes, the new cross-link/bar architecture they are using and DDR capability may be one of the first things to go.

I think it will run with DDR, but use a less efficient memory interface. That way it will have more features, and be faster than the old MX card, but still be cheaper.

I dislike crippled versions of good hardware, like MX or Celeron. i'd rather wait to upgrade a bit longer. like I was 9 months behind the release of the big 3 of last year, saved money...

I am also waiting, still running with a slightly modified TNT2 Pro, till the current market settles a bit. Next purchase will either be a KyroII, GF2/3MX or GF2 Pro depending on how much it all costs when I'm ready to buy.

At this moment in time the GF3 is just not justifiable in price.

TNT2 pro was a good card, I liked it. better than the V3 and IMO 6 months more future proof. what are you running yours at?

With the blue orb, I can max it out at 183MHz core, 205MHz on the memory (with some errors otherwise 200MHz on the memory is fine).

I run it at 180MHz core /195MHz memory for hard-core clan matches, and 175MHz core and 195MHz memory every other time.
Remember default clocking is 143MHz core / 166MHz memory.

Woohoo, I just hope my $40 MX card can tide me over till then. Although them GeForce2 Pro cards for under $180 are damn tempting...
