System:

FIC AD11 Motherboard [amd 761 chipset]
AMD 1.3Ghz cpu [266 FSB]
512MB PC2100 Mushkin Basic Memory
Gainward Geforce3
Turtle Beach Santa Cruz sound card
Intel 10/100 PCI NIC
Adaptec 29160 SCSI Card

BIOS settings same for both OS's.
None of the above cards share IRQ's in WinME.
Test programs used: 3dmark2001 and Max Payne

WinME:

4-in-1 drivers ver 4.32 [minus the agp vxd file]
nVidia ref drivers ver 12.41
AMD AGP miniport patch

WinXP:

4-in-1 drivers not installed
nVidia ref drivers ver 12.41
AMD AGP support built into WinXP

When running 3dmark 2001, it locks up randomly on the 4th test [dragon rider] under WinME. I also can not start Max Payne. However, everything is fine under WinXP.

If I install a GeForce2 GTS [Leadtek - 32mb], both OS's can run the tests/game without any problem.

Duh..I knew that. 🙂 However, other than Win2k and Win98SE, ME is the better choice for gaming. 🙂 Guess I'll just run XP RC2 until RTM.

I dunno, I think gaming OS superiority would go something like this: Win98SE/fe, Win95(), WinXP or Win2k(jury's still out), WinME, WinNT.

Some can get WinME to work, some can't no matter what they do. Of course this doesn't necessarily mean that WinME is the culprit here. Try going to MadOnions website and see if there are any special instructions for WinME.
