Hey all. I just got me a new system and eveything. It's a T-Bird 1.33 Ghz with 256 MB. Anyway, I got a GeForce 3 with it. Everything works like a dream, except when it comes to running D3D-based games. Sure, Quake 3 runs great and smooth, but when I'm trying my hand at Unreal Tournament, Deus Ex, or Undying, it sucks!! Since all the games are based on the Unreal graphics engine, I really don't have a choice but to run it in D3D mode. I can force both Unreal Tournament and Deus Ex to run in OpenGL, but it looks kinda fonky. Also, Undying only supports 3DFX Glide or D3D, so i'm forced to play it in the latter mode. But seriously, shouldn't the GeForce be able to handle D3D? I'm kinda worried that something is wrong with my card. Could anyone offers some solutions?

Which drivers are you running? I'm having no problems in GTA2 or UT.....

I'm on the Asus V8200 Deluxe with the Asus 12.60 drivers.

Sorry man, but I hate to break it to you, but your problems have nothing to do with the Geforce 3. The truth is, is that games based on the Unreal engine just don't function too well under D3D. As a matter of fact, the Unreal engine was actually designed for the GLIDE api (old VOODOO 1,2 and 3 standard). I know for Deus Ex there is a patch that helps boost the D3D performance. To say that the "GeForce 3 can't handle D3D" is kind of silly since the GeForce 3 is the first video card to fully support all functions of Direct X 8 (Thus they use a version of the card in the Microsoft XBOX - fyi microsoft develops D3D, an extension of Direct X). I know that Unreal doesn't have any special patch for D3D compatibility improvements, but Deus Ex does. Check it out here:

Just make sure all of the games you have are up to date with the latest patches.

Good luck man.

For Unreal Tournament you go here to get the opengl drivers and use the 2nd CD to make the game scream + better visuals.

Ok dude heres youre answer. When you start up the game "Unreal tournament" Choose to Redetect video settings. wehn it gives you the options, eg "d3d and Software rendering" Click down the bottom where it says "Show all devices." Now choose "openGl Support"

If you dont have this option then make sure you have the latest update for UT and then you should beable to do it.

Hope this helps. It did for me.
