which set up would be faster/more powerfull:

Geforce GTX 295 vs. Geforce GTX 285x2 (SLI) ?

Pros/Cons are welcome.

GTX295 is essentially 2x GTX275s in SLI. Performance would be higher with 2xGTX285s whether SLI scales in a given game.

GTX295 vs. GTX285 SLI

slower/faster

less power consumption/more power consumption

requires 1 8-pin and 1 6-pin PCI-e power connectors/requires 4 6-pin PCI-e power connectors.

less expensive (529.00)/more expensive (570.00)

85 to 90% performance of GTX285 SLI/10 to 15% faster than GTX295

one slot/two slots

More pros for the GTX295 IMHO.

And probably a better decision over both is 2xGTX275. (same performance of GTX295 for @ 440.00)

Were you bored or something? 😉

1 PCI-e slot/2 PCI-e slots

takes up two card spaces/takes up four card spaces.

Yah, I'd go with two Core 216's or two GTX275's in SLI, if you're looking for a hot deal or concerned about value.

Concerned only with Raw performance, go with Double or triple GTX285 Superclocked editions in SLI.

I'd go with an ati card. You can get 2 4850s for 180 now, or 2 4870s for 240.

I would too, personally. I'd love to have Crossfire 4890's at 1Ghz. I just thought the OP was only interested in SLI.

Frankly, I don't trust ATI anymore. Half the time their drivers are crap (people reporting)

And yeah, I'm after the performance, not value.

You don't know what you're talking about. ATI's drivers are a good as nVidia's. That's why alot of people buy ATI GPUs.:|

Id go with the 2 285s. You cant go wrong.

These bad-boys are a little cheaper:

They are cheaper because the waranty is only for 2 years instead of lifetime

So what, do you think he'll be keeping that SLI system a lifetime? I don't think it's going to last more then one year in his computer anyway. At that price the cards are really worth the cash.

That's a pisser deal if you want the best bang for your buck. The 295 is an excellent card which I got for $500 six months ago. Paying more for it six months later seems like a waste of money when there are comparable options that are much cheaper.
