GeForce 256 --> Geforce 2 PRO?

Hey All, I just went nuts at Fry's and picked up a 1.4 T-Bird / Soyo Dragon Combo, and I've ordered 512 MB DDR ram from Crucial. The thing is, my video card is a Geforce 256, The Guillemot 3d Prophet. Is this going to be a major bottleneck considering how much power my system has? Is it worth it to upgrade my video card, or rather than be a bottleneck will my system make up for my old card?

If that's the sdr GeForce, I'd buy a GeForce 2 PRO and sell your old card in the forums. System sounds great so far!

I'm kinda suprised, didn't think the GeForce would last that long. Does it benchmark fsater than the GF 2 MX?

Yes a GF1 DDR does bench better than a GF2 MX. Because SDR RAM suxors unless it's one of those "golden sample" ultra high MHz SDRs, and it still pretty much suxors compared to Pro/Ultra.]

Check out the Q3 10X7X32!

I'd say that is a pretty clear picture of the value of memory bandwidth and why any MX is a POS compared to any DDR. The guys that shelled out $300 for DDRs almost THREE YEARS AGO still have a usable card that's faster than all the crap MXs, V5s, and all the Radeons except one. (and it's close to that one) That is a pretty amazing longevity.

However, a GF256 SDR is not faster than an MX...I know!
I went from Riva 128 - TNT - GF256 - then upgraded to an MX 2 with -5ns RAM running at 210/230 way better than the GF256SDR 😉
3Dmark2000 of 5650 - hell my GF2 Pro at 250/460 only gets around 6000 with a Duron at 700Mhz!
