Get a GeForce 2 Pro. They can be found for $120, and with a bit of tweeking, you can get them to run near or even at Ultra speeds. Even if you don't want to mess with your board, the Ultra cannot deliver an extra $60 or more of performance that you would have to pay extra for the card.

you're comparing an overclocked card to a non-tweaked one. be fair. the ultra will be much faster once you overclock it.

i think im going to get either a leadtek or creative gf2 ultra, if those are still be sold at bestbuy. i think leadtek is more overclockable because of its good cooling tho

Spend how you want, but the Ultra will not be $60-100 faster. An Ultra is ecentially just an overclocked GeForce 2 GTS chip with 4 ns ram. A Pro is a GeForce 2 GTS chip with 5 ns ram. Gainward supplies their Pro with 4.5 ns ram. The Ultra's only advantage is it's 250 MHz clock speed and it's 460MHz ram speed. With over clocking you could get the Ultra's ram speed up some, and even the GPU, but the GPU is still the same as what is in the Pro. There is always the chance of getting Pro than can achieve the same core speed of an Ultra. The Ultra's primary advantage is its 4 ns ram wich allows for higher rams speeds, and ultimately a higher bandwidth.

The difference in core speed, 200 for the Pro and 250 for the Ultra is not nearly as important as the RAM speed. When I made my decision to buy the Pro this is what I based it on.

Geforce Pro (stock) 200/400
Geforce Pro (o'clocked) 220/470
Geforce Ultra (stock) 250/460
Geforce Ultra (o'clocked)265/500

This is an average of what everybody seems to be reaching, the extra $60 for the Ultra didn't seem worth it over the Gainward Pro 450.
