I'm trying to get the best geforce2 ultra since 3 will drive the price down a little.

Any recommendation on a good brand to get ?

Also I couldn't find 32mb ones, do they have or should i just get pro...

I needed one of those quadro speed or ability to run 3dstudio max...

or recommened me a card just as fast or faster for 3dstudio max.. thanks.

Elsa

They don't have 32MB GF2 Ultras

Pro has slower core clock which means slower T&L which does matter in 3DSM. For 3DSM a regular GTS will be just as fast as a 32MB Pro, they both run their core clock at 200MHZ.

Any card as fast or faster in 3DSM then one of the GF2 boards is going to cost you a sh!tload more.

Does their Maxtreme (for 3D Studio Max) software work on their Gladiac or only on their Gloria? If so, then yes by all means go with Elsa Gladiac Geforce 2 Ultra.

"Does their Maxtreme (for 3D Studio Max) software work on their Gladiac or only on their Gloria?"

Only on the Gloria, though every Gladiac is a potential Gloria;) I suggest Elsa simply as it is widely available and is based on the best 2D core GF2. Visiontek or Inno would also be good. The Maxxtreme software definately improves speed quite a bit, but it also only runs on a Quadro board. So unless you want to drop $600-$700 on a Quadro or mod your GF2 to one, the regular GF2 performance is what you will get(though that itself is very nice).

You might see the price drop a bit with the release of the GeForce3, how much I'm not sure though. It won't be dropping to GF2 Pro territory, but seeing it in the ~$280 range wouldn't shock me(~$250 for a "hot deal" situation wouldn't shock me much either, but not seeing that for a while would be what I would expect).

Luke... I am your father...

I'm looking at teh Gladiac 920 - geforce 3, it says 3x faster then Ultra..

For 3DStudio Max.... if it's double, I wouldn't mind paying 100 more for it or so..

What do you think ? I can use the onboard 1 mb video on the cusl2 till i get the geforce 3... hehehe.. just a thought..

I would be surprised if the GeForce3 could match the Ultra in 3DSM, honestly. The only way in which a GF3 paired with 3DSM would be beneficial is if you were a DX8 developer.

The much criticized "static" T&L unit of the GF2U is faster then the GF3, period. The GF3 has the same T&L unit on it that the GF2 has(it just has two units, one programmable one not), but it is clocked 50MHZ lower then the Ultra. The only possible exception would be if nVidia decided to "uncripple" the drivers for the GF3(which the GF2 drivers currently are, making room for the Quadro which on a chip level is identical to the GF2).

Another possible benefit, though I would have to see 3DSM 4 along with a GeForce3 to varify, would be if it allowed you to use realtime rendering of all applied effects when working on models directly.

In terms of flat out performance, I would wager that the GF2U will be faster for 3DSM then the GeForce3.
