GeForce 2 Ti or Radeon 7500?

Howdy. I have seen the GeForce 2 Ti priced rather well at Pricewatch and I also saw the Radeon 7500 there for a good price. So I looked around on AnandTech and couldn't find much info on either card. So I went to Tom's Hardware and from his VGA charts the 7500 consistently performed better. Now, I'm wondering your people's opinions because really I'm kind of stuck because I've heard of several people having problems with the 7500. Alright that's it.

Oh boy, this question is a loaded one. If you main priority is games, the Geforce 2 Ti overclocked vs a Radeon 7500 overclocked is slightly ahead in gaming frame rates. The Radeon 7500 will score higher in 3Dmark 2001, and has better feature chipset for tasks other than gaming. Both are a very good value.

You'll find varying opinions on this, both are solid cards and will perform well for you though.

Without knowing your requirements it's hard to say for certain but I would tend to lean toweards the Radeon 7500 as it has a very slightly better 3D feature set, along with better 2D visual quality, and DVD playback.
Performance at stock clockspeed is very close, either card could have the advantage depending upon the individual game. I'd probably give the GF2 Ti the very slight edge on current games though as it's performance is more well rounded across the field.
On the other hand, I think it likely the Radeon 7500 will outperform the GF2 Ti in most future games as memory controller efficiency becomes increasingly important with the more bandwdith dependent nature of upcoming games.

What big advantage of the Radeon 7500 is that it comes stock with ATi's excellent TV-Out, and HydraVision support.

Both cards can overclock quite well usually, in general I'd probably say the Radeon 7500 overclocks a bit better but that's really dependent upon which GF2 Ti you compare it to.

The drivers for the Radeon 7XXX series have had plenty of time to mature now, and I wouldnt expect too many problems at all.
nVidia's driver support for the GF2 Ti is excellent and you shouldnt have any problems with it either.

Be sure to shop carefully for the 7500 Radeon, I've seen memory speeds from 3.6ns to 5.5ns which will influence performance and overclocking considerably. Also note that there are SDR versions as well and different configurations from third party manufacturers, some with single head and up to 128 MB of ram.

As long as you know what you are getting, you'll be fine. The price is right, the performance is very good and the TV-out is excellent. My AIW 7500 comes with 5ns ram, but overclocks well (300/420 core/memory), most regular 7500's should do better than that with their faster ram.
