Hi,

I bought a Asus GF2Ti 64MBDDR recently for my old socket 7 system. It works great, but... can I only use detonator drivers 14.x and up?
older dets do not recognise the Ti and only give GF2, GF2 GTS and GF@ ultra as install options...

I tried to install dets 8.05 (among the best for my system) but after reboot I only have 4 bit color @ 640x480 and no way I can change that!

Does anybody use old dets with his GF2Ti or does anyone know what the problem might be?
Any suggestions?

I've seen 3dmark2000 results that show a 50% increase by using old dets instead of the new ones on systems like mine... that's a lot!

thanx,

BHard

System:
Asus P5A socket 7 rev. 1.03 @105MHz
AMD K6III+450@525 MHz
ASUS GF2 Ti 64 MB DDR
448 MB generic SDRAM cas3@cas2
Windows XP

Even though the card is only ID as a Geforce2, it makes no difference to its functionality. The Geforce2 Ti works no differently to a GTS, Pro, or Ultra card.

Also, I dont see how older detonators make the card perform better in either 3DMark2000 or normal games. I have a Geforce1 DDR card and for me, the 21.88 drivers are the best of the recent sets in terms of max compatibility and speed performing faster than the older sets (although my system is Socket A, not Socket 7).

Also, I dont recall the 8.xx versions being all that popular and widespread, mainly the 7.xx versions during the time the Geforce2 reigned supreme (although there are no XP equivalent drivers).

vss1980,

the performance gain with the old 7.58 - 8.05 detonators is related to the socket7 platform. New dets do not work as well with my chipset (Ali V), resulting in lower performance.

The latest dets give better performance with games using directx 8, but just a little.

You say that it doesn't matter how the card is identified... strange that I am not able to get the old detonator drivers (for win2k) to work...

I have an Asus P5A and a TNT2 Ultra and I get about the same now with the newest dets than I did with the original creative drivers. It actually gives me a bit better in 3dMark2000/2001 now too.

Well, if your trying to get the older Win2K drivers working in Windows XP, you have to expect that there may be a few problems with them.
