Personally I think the Geforce 2 Pro is the sweet-spot in the Videocard market.

Out of the box they are fast- O/clock them and they can get close to an Ultra. I wouldn't go for an Ultra personally- but they are much more expensive where i live.

Check the specs on them though- some Pro's are clocked lower than others.

You're gonna need at least 100 more watts for that kinda system. Oh yea, I think GeForce2 Pros are great, I think only Leadtek and MSI made GF2 Pros.

Other places should have them too. Yea I think the MSI GF2 Pro is a good one.

Unfortunately, Im going to tell you that you have to shell out at least $50 for a good enough power supply. I mean, 250W is definitely NOT going to cut it, I dont even believe a 300W can support the 1.4GHz. Most of the AMD recommended PSUs for 1.4GHz are 340/350Ws and above. You have a few options,

Enermax EG365P-VE 350W ~$56
Sparkle FSP350-60BN 350W ~$50
Enlight EN-8341938A1 340W ~$40

The best one to get would be the Enermax, it's a very powerful PSU, it has dual fans which helps cooling, and its 2.03ATX compatible. If you want to save some money, get the Enlight, a very high quality PSU.

This bites, i bought an AOPEN case for 60 + shipping, came with 250 wat power supply.. i need better power supply, and they are like 50 bucks for a good one?? I could just get the ENLIGHT case with 300 wat power supply for 50 bucks... DANGIT, now i have an extra CASE + POWERSUPPLY.... plz help me guys.. what do u recommend i do? is there any cheap good power supplys ? is generic safe?

Generic is not safe, there is no other way, nobody forced you buy the 1.4GHz, it requires that much power, you shoulda knew what to expect. The best thing you could've done is buy the Enlight case with the 340W PSU bundled, and newegg has it for $75.

My leadtek pro can be overclocked to ultra speeds and the 2-d quality is also good.
Beside a more powerful power supply, you need a better heatsink than volcano-2.

Try out the 250 watt psu unit before you buy a new one, most Aopen power supplied are very HQ and i know that those 250watt supply they use are amd aproved for a 1ghz cpu.

Try it out first & if it doesnt work get a more powerfull PSU.

I just checked amd's site and it has a Aopen 250watt power supply that recomended all the way up to a 1.33ghz cpu.

go see for yourself. :)

So that little 250watter might just be good enough, dont get discouraged until you try it out first.;)

I'd take LXi's advice and shell out for the better quality PSu. A 1.4GHz CPU is going to want a lot of juice and a good power supply will keep everything consistant. Also a Power supply is something that you will have long after your videocard and CPU have been updated

Well, if you're going to load up your system, I still dont believe that 250W is going to be enough. Definitely should try it first though.

Yes i agree he should definately get a better psu,but it doesnt hurt to try the 250 out for a few days to see if it can handle the stress. :)

"Fire it up and see if it handles the stress"????

Why take chances; take Lxi's advice.

I purchased an Enermax EP465P-VE (431 Watts) with great amperage specs and decent
regulation. It's going in my Asus Cusl2 system which is loaded up.

For the AMD system I'm building I just received an Enermax EP365P-VE(FC), a 350 watter
with nice specs from Newegg.com for $65 shipped.

Your P/S is one of the most important "building blocks" of your system, don't skimp there.
That's why AMD has a "recommended Power Supply" webpage, you know???

The amd site says the 1.4 ghz can support AOPEN's 300W power supply and up.

i got the 250, can it hurt anythign trying it out ?

should i get the artic II thermal paste?

also is the MSI a good gf2 pro card for good 2d

It won't hurt anything to try it out. That's what you should do since you already have it. Don't listen to these guys telling you to buy whatever PS they happen to own.

If it doesn't post, won't boot, or bsods once you get into windows, then you have an idea as to what the problem might be. It wouldn't hurt to make a backup of your registry....just in case.

As for GF2 Pros, make sure you know what you are getting. Some are clocked at 366 MHz mem, some at 400. I have the leadtek (366 MHz), and it's an allright card, but I would have gone with the MSI (400 MHz) had I not been impatient.

You can oc Pros to Ultra speeds but have you guys had the pleasure of oc an Ulta yet? Hit 500 the other day, usually keep mine at 480 for stability purposes :)

<< I have the leadtek and the default is 400 ? >>

I guess you got a good one :) I have heard that some leadteks are 366 and some 400.

I got mine from newegg about a month ago. It has 5.5ns ram, and defaults to 366 (as it should given the ram). I'm not complaining, though; it oc's to 420 with no extra cooling, and was nice upgrade from my gf 2 mx.

I have the Leadtek with default of 400 as well, guess I was lucky:) It's currently at 460 and I haven't seen any problems with it.
