Geforce 2 or G400 Max

hey all, i currently have a g400 max and am thinking of getting rid of it for a spiffy geforce 2. I dont use the dual head feature on the g400, I mainly use my computer for internet browsing, word proccessing, programming... but i also play counterstrike, diablo 2, and will be getting some new games in the future... so what do u guys think? I can get a generic geforce 2 for about the same price i can see the g400 max for so its just about free.
Thanks,
Armen

I would say get the Geforce 2 GTS, for Counter-Strike (it rocks 🙂)... If it's almost free, then the only reason I would say NOT to get it is if you do a lot of photo/image editing, graphics work, as the G400 has supreme 2D visual quality.

If you've got a good monitor and run it at anything higher than 1024x768 you might be disappointed by the 2D quality of the Geforce cards. You won't notice it in games, but while browsing or coding, you'll be downright irritated by the fuzzy text. (Until you someday get used to it...) A surprisingly good choice all around is either the ATI Radeon, or a Voodoo 4 or 5 (depending on needs/budget). The smoothing FSAA on the Voodoo 5 can't be touched. 🙂
Of course, FSAA is best for lower-res games. Give me 800x600 2x/4x FSAA over 1280x1024 any day! 😛

Wait for the next-generation of cards. If you buy now you will regret it, but if you are itching to make a change from your G400 get the GF2 MX, it's cheap and it should carry you over for the next couple months.

I couldn't stand the 3D performance of my G400 and got a MX, but I do miss the high resolution desktops.
