Ok im not bonkers, its just that I had a 6800gt AGP card blow up when my pc got some nasty shocks from the wall outlet. anyway it died and its ruined alot of my current pc, which i will be upgrading, the stuff should arrive tomorrow. But to save $250 that i simply do not have I pklan to use my VERY old Geforce 2 MX200 that I found in a box, the reason Im hoping it works is that its a PCI card and the new MOBO will obv only have PCIe and PCI, so the question is, can I run winxp and various programs (not games) for maybe 2 weeks?

I checked and the card is able to do xp ok but that was when xp came out, with all the upgrades and add ons is xp needing more than this now adays. Will this do? Thanks

You may have trouble getting drivers for it. Why not get a mobo that has onboard video and just turn that on for a few weeks instead?

I have that (or is it the MX400?) in one of the kids Computers. It's been running XP Pro for a couple years with no problems on an XP1800.

I believe you should be able to find older Drivers on the NVidia site somewhere. If not, I think Windows will install some adequate Drivers by itself.

I had an MX420 in my old Dell; I think I kept up with drivers until around 70.xx ish. Guru3D should be able to hook you up with some older drivers. I don't think it really matters what you have as long as the drivers have compatibility.

You will be able to run xp fine on it. i ran xp with a Riva tnt2 :p

edit: it was a pci card also, not agp

Should work fine for 2d stuff ... essentially its a GeForce 2.

You can also go to Guru 3D to find an extensive archive of old Nvidia drivers if you need to.

I used that pci card to "upgrade" an Emachines box from IGP! It actually served me well for about a year...but that was 4-5 years ago :) I tried to use it years later for a 3 monitor thing and I was able to pull the driver right off the Nvidia page, I think you still can too.
