System Specs :
Athlon 750
Abit KX133 Mobo w/ VIA chipset
128 MB PC133 RAM
30 GB WD ATA/66 5400 RPM HD
Win98SE , DirectX 8.0a
Hercules' NVIDIA Drivers (4.12.01.0752)

Does anyone know of speed problems with AGP or GeForce 2 MX video cards on Athlon systems? I'm pulling only around 40 fps at 800x600 in CounterStrike, whereas according to many benchmark tests I've read I should be pulling at least 70-80 fps.

Also, does anyone know of specific problems when upgrading to a GeForce 2 MX from a RIVA TNT1 based card? Are there any registry settings left over that might not have been uninstalled?

*Any* help is appreciated, I'm in dire need of assistance!

Did you install the Via 4 in 1 drivers, make sure FSAA is disabled(it`s in Nvidia display panel under D3D)disable all video shadowing. The Nvidia 6.50 drivers work well with CS,infact I`ve no problems with any games, also run CS in OpenGl.

I'm running Hercules' latest drivers, which I believe are based off the NVIDIA 7.52 Detonators.

FSAA is disabled.

What exactly are the VIA 4 in 1 drivers?

Is there someone who could please explain what the 4 in 1 drivers do, and where I may find them?

Via 4 in 1 drivers are for all Via chipset boards, this from Viahardware

<< VIA has been offering their 4-in-1 driver for quite some time now. It is designed to solve all compatibility problems with Microsoft OS's and VIA chipsets. As MS has traditionally provided very little support for third party chipsets, the chipset manufacturers must provide their own patches.

The VIA 4-in-1 is updated regularly, as bugs are found and performance is tweaked. It is recommended you install the latest 4-in-1, unless you are experiencing problems

You can get them from http://www.viahardware.com/download/index.shtm#4in1 the latest are 4.29.

With the Via AGP driver(part of the 4 in 1 drivers) installed your fps in gaming should improve. So the Via drivers in general increase speed & stability for Via chipset boards.

Via drivers are the most important part of any via chipset system, without them the system will be dog slow.
