I posted about this a while ago, but I never solved the problem (and I've tried several more things), so I'll try it again:
I'm having an odd problem with a Geforce 2 MX in Windows 2000. I have an Epox KP6-BS (rev .2) with Dual PII 450s. The card seems to work fine in 2d and in most games, but I have a problem in Quake III Arena. If I enable GL Extensions, my system immediately hangs whenever I enter a level. If I disable GL Extensions, it runs ok, but it's really slow. I had a Voodoo3 3000 PCI before I got the Geforce and it worked fine. I thought maybe it was a driver conflict, so I formatted and reinstalled. This didn't help. Next, I thought it might be a bad card. I had my roommate try it. He has an 850mhz Thunderbird on a Gigabyte KT133 board running Windows 2000. The card worked perfectly in his system in Quake III with GL Extensions enabled. I've tried many different drivers for the card and all of the versions of Quake III, and nothing seems to help. I tried an Nvidia reference bios for the card, and that didn't help. I have the latest bios for my board, and I don't have any irq conflicts. Both ACPI and power management are disabled. I also tried pulling all of my other pci cards, thinking there might be some odd conflict (or a sound problem). This didn't help either. I have SP1 and all other Windows 2000 patches and updates from windowsupdate. I'm beginning to wonder if the AGP slot isn't providing enough power, but I've used both an AGP Voodoo3 and an AGP TNT2 in this system with no problems. Does anybody have any ideas? Here's my complete system configuration:
Epox KP6-BS rev .2 (440BX)
2 PII 450s
256mb PC100
The aformentioned Geforce 2 MX
Intel NIC
Adaptec 2930CU SCSI card
Creative Soundblaster 16 PCI (ES1371)
drives and such...
I appreciate any suggestions. I'm stumped.
