I recently sold my Geforce 2 MX, and I purchased a Geforce 2 GTS for the same price as I sold the MX.

Geforce 2 MX-->Geforce 2 GTS
SDR->DDR
Core:175->200
Ram:166->333
Texels:700 mil->1600 mil

Any of you upgrade from a MX to a Ti/Pro/Ultra/GTS and found that these DDR boards are somewhat better? Also I think that the Geforce DDR is better than the MX.

I don't want to get a Geforce 4 MX, because since the Geforce 2 can do bascially the same as the Geforce 4 MX supports DX7.

Do you think it was a good trade or buy?

If you just wanted a cheap replacement for your GF2 MX then it should do you nicely, the GTS should definitely provide a rather appreciative performance boost.

I upgraded from a GF2 MX to a GF2 GTS and I found the difference to be massive, in excess of ~80% in real gameplay.

Given how quickly you seem to upgrade that must have been.... what, 4 or 5 cards since then? :D

Wow 80% nice...

Actually I don't upgrade much, my first real 3d card was a Voodoo 3 2000 ;)

Then it was a Geforce 2 MX, bought in the year 2000 and now this Geforce 2 GTS :D

I haven't really tried it out yet, but I'll use 3dmark

My Geforce 2 MX score is so low..about 2100, I know it's so bad...

Only got a P3 800mhz..what do you think the GTS will get ? 3000? 3500?

So Rand, the answer to your question is...3 I guess..lol

:D GTS is a big improvement over the MX cards, and GF4MX cards are not much better than GTS at all. Better AA and '2D' IQ, that's about it.

;) However, 800mhz is enough to gain appreciable benefit from a GF3TI200 or Rad8500LE, both are about $90 at the mo, but may be worth it for your next upgrade.

I'll upgrade until my video card is somewhat outdated and unplayable, that time Geforce 3 and a 8500 will be so cheap probably.

Damn I wonder how much the NV30 and R300 will cost when I plan to upgrade...maybe by that time they will be outdated and R400 or NV40 will be out soon...Dunno :confused:

NV30 has firewire? It must be expensive?

I've both a GF2 MX200 and a GTS-V in my various backup boxes. The GTS-V mops the floor with the MX200, even without overclocking (which the GTS-V does VERY WELL).

It's basically an underclocked GeForce2 GTS marketed by VisionTek. It's clockd at 275/286 rather then the 200/333 of the full GTS.

My overclocked Geforce 2 64mb on an athlon Tbird 800 with crappy PC100 Ram gets 3003, if that's any help

In a different class. In the same game that is a little jerky and sometimes gliches with an MX 400 at 640x480, the Pro can do 1024x768 at all quality settings max, smooth as silk.

The only reason I ever got the MX was that it was the ONLY reasonably priced video that worked quite good on 3D games when it first came out. It was great when the Pro hit a price near what I orignally paid for the MX.

As for 2D, non-games, all video cards are overpriced and a waste of money.

I went from the original Geforce2MX (Hercules 3D Prophet IIMX) to the Visiontek Geforce2 GTS-V (Visiontek 5632 from newegg.com) and with some light overclocking using the stock cooler, framerates in Serious Sam 2 and Max Payne nearly doubled. I don't consider myself a hardcore gamer, but the difference was quite significant for me to notice.

Also I paid about half as much for the GTS-V than i did for the MX...

Hehe, back in January 2001, I had a GF2MX, from a TNT. I later sold the MX for $50 earlier this year (Summertime), Had to use my TNT for a while, found a very good deal on a OEM MSi GF3 Ti200 for $69, Overclocked it to 240/544. Very nice card indeed, much faster than the MX. I'm sure you'll notice a big difference (If you have not already) in framerates.
