GeForce 2 GTS Video Card Compatibility with 8x AGP slot

I am building a new system with an ASUS P4C800E-Deluxe motherboard. I want to use my old video card, a GeForce 2 GTS, until I can get a new card. The ASUS manual says that only AGP video cards requiring 0.8 or 1.5 volts can be used with this motherboard. I have read that my GeForce 2 GTS is AGP 2x/4x compatible but AGP 2x is 3.3 volt and AGP 4x is 1.5 volts. Does anyone know how I can determine if my GeForce card is safe to use with my new ASUS P4C800 motherboard? I have checked the NVIDIA web site and read the AnandTech and Tom's Hardware reviews on the GeForce 2 GTS but they don't say anything about card voltages.

Have you tried the pdf manual for the mobo from asus's site?

I used a Geforce2 Ultra in my Abit IC7 for a few months if that helps you at all... I know the mobo youre talking about is the same chipset/generation as the IC7...

Yes, I checked the pdf P4C800 manual at the ASUS site. Page 2-17 has the caution about only using 0.8 or 1.5 volt video cards. It's good to hear your GeForce 2 Ultra worked with your IC7 board. I wouldn't think the GTS has a different voltage requirement.

I believe the connector on AGP cards is keyed so that cards requiring a particular voltage only fit AGP slots that can accomadate them. I have also read caustions about frying older video cards by putting them in new machines so I'm hoping someone can hook me to a site with a full explanation of AGP cards, voltages, and keying.

I just installed my GeForce 2 GTS on my new ASUS P4C800 motherboard and tuurned it on. Seems to be working fine. BIOS came right up and I'm now loading the OS. Thanks for relating your experience.
