I would like to have my old Compaq K6-2 350 (@ 400 MHz, passively cooled
) with a Voodoo3 2000 PCI and 256MB of PC100 back. That was a sweet little box! I added a 20 gig hard drive to the stock 8 gig, and replaced the CD-ROM with CDRW and DVD drives. The power supply was strained, no doubt about it.
I remember the day I installed the Voodoo3 (as an upgrade to the onboard ATi Rage Pro 4mb), and an extra 128 mb of RAM (192 total at the time). I was playing Rogue Squadron on the onboard, and suffered deeply. I installed the Voodoo and the extra RAM, selected GLIDE, got back into the game and was absolutely shocked by silky smooth gameplay at 1024x768 with full details, where I was barely choking by at 640x480 with the ATi.
I was so happy that day, trying all my favorite games - Quake 3, Carmageddon 2, Unreal, Unreal tournament, you name it... Those were the Halcyon days....
