GeForce 2 GTS 32mb vs ATI Radeon DDR 32mb

My new computer is going to be a T-Bird 1GHz, 256mb PC133 cas2 ram, abitkt7-raid (and a dvd rom). i'll probably be running Win2k and maybe Win98se. i was wondering what people would recommend to me.

id try to keep the cost below $200 (i found a leadtek geforce 2 gts 32mb for $177 (w/ tv-out), and i guess the lowest priced radeon ddr 32mb is $123 with free shipping).

i will be watching DVD's on my system, and i know ATI's DVD quality is great (i have an ati rage fury on my current system).

i wont be doing much 16-bit...

so if you could take those into consideration, as well as driver performance...i know about driver nightmares with my rage fury and i dont wanna deal with that same stuff again, but i hear the new radeon drivers are supposed to be better now. thanks in advance

(oh, does the 32mb DDR Radeon have VIVO?)

If you're primarily going to be gaming, you may want to go for the GeForce. Until some new drivers come out, Radeon performance on Win2k is about 10% slower than on Win9x. I haven't had too many problems with my Ati...beyoned hosing my Win2k install...and not having AGP 4X enabled because it causes my PC to reboot once it gets to the desktop...

YEah...geforce GTS is way to go for gaming....watching DVD's and overall video quality is Raedon's department.

If you're not doing much 16 bit, and who is, go for Radeon all the way. New 2K drivers are jsut about to be released.

i cant find any 32mb DDR Radeons with video in/video out ... do they make them or only for the 64mb version?

i think ive decided on getting a Radeon 64MB with VIVO... at gogocity its $214 for just the card (it's listed as ATI RADEON 64MB DDRAM 2X/4X AGP VIVO (Bare Card)) .. so the Win2k drivers are okay? i hope they get better, is rageunderground still around?

The "bare" OEM card is clocked at 166/166. Buy.com has the retail 183/183 for $238. You may be able to get an extra $10 off Here.

You have to use Powerstrip to adjust clock speed. Not crazy about it. OEM has 6ns mem. Retail has 5.5ns mem. Retail will do 200-205 easily. IMHO, the retail is worth the extra few $.

If you're still looking for a Radeon64 VIVO then I think buy.com has the best deal. I got mine a couple days ago and it was $238-$30 coupon + free shipping.

$208 is an amazing deal for this kickass card. It's really great except the drivers still aren't very good. They are getting better though...

I am pretty sure the $30 coupons expired Dec 31st. They had a new customer $30 off and a returning customer $30 off. I bought a new IBM 46 gig GXP with a 30 off and whish I would have gotten a new video card with a 30 off as well.

NO! Dont get it from there if it is the bare card. At buy.com and computers4sure.com you can get the RETAIL version of the 64MB VIVO for $210, it comes just like it would if you were buying it from a store. Much better deal.
