GeForce 2 32mb to 16mb?

I have a MSI GeForce 2 GTS 32mb, Athlon 1.4, and WinXP. I put a Crystal Orb cooler on the video card and reinstalled it. Now the card is reported as having 16 mb of ram and my 3DMark2000 scores have gone from 7350 to 5450 at stock settings. In particular the 64 bit texture rendering speed test hardly moved. I have the latest Nvidia drivers. Does anyone know what happened to the other 16 mb of ram? Is it likely that I physically damaged something, though I don't know how. Thanks.

Perhaps you have gotten some heatsink compound on one of the mem chips and it's shorting out the whole bank? Not really certain they are in banks or not. I had an Asus board that did that to me a couple times, then quit miss-reporting. Come to think of it, that board did'nt last all that long either.
