Geezer Needs PSU Help

Ok, finally upgrading to a PCIe mobo. 😱

Need a little help selecting a PSU. really, I need info on PCIe connectors

The PC is built around the Intel E8400, no OCing, no gaming (using IGP), will be used for work/office.

I'm looking at a mobo like THIS.

How many PCIe connectors and what type for this mobo?(are their different types?)

TIA

Fern

If you just using IGP you don't need a pci-express power connector. Now if you were to get a stand alone card you would need either a 6 pin or 8 pin PCI-E connector, and the amount of which vary from card to card.

Sounds like you don't need any more than one of these...

Edit:
Although I do understand that intel has a larger performance lead but for just an office rig why not just go the AMD route? It's cheaper and their IGP motherboards tend to be better(780G > Intel). No need to spend extra money on performance you probably not going to use :\

Thanks,

So, the pin # (6 or 8) and possibly the number of PCIe connectors depends on the gfx card?

OK, I'll check out the AMD stuff. I'm doing a budget work up on the Intel right now.

(BTW: can't use that particular PSU, the mobo looks to be a 24 pinner)

Thanks,

Fern

Correct. Unless your not talking about the power connectors and rather the physical slots.

The PSU will work fine, it's 20+4 pin, basically a 24 pin PSU with the ability to detach 4 pins for older 20 pin motherboards.
