our switches didn't like it. Fortunately, we had a packet sniffer in place and null routed the destination of the attack, and had our provider block it as well

but... 900Mbps.... over it actually, not quite a gig though..

It's 2008. This kind of thing happens. You need to have good equipment appropriately sized, and procedures in place to detect and respond.

Sounds like it didn't do too much damage and hopefully you got some management educational value out of it.

Yea, we handled it well. We have sniffers all over the network and were able to figure out the destination of the attack within a few minutes, had it null routed, etc..
