A new Hollywood Video opened by the apartment recently. To promote the store, they sent out coupons in the mail -- $.99 for a video rental, up to three videos per coupon!

So, I decide to take advantage of it. Last night, I got Signs, The Bourne Identity, and K-19 each for $.99, PLUS I get to keep them 'til next Monday! There were lots of copies of each movie available, too. Wow, why haven't I gone to Hollywood Video before? If I had gone to Blockbuster, most of the copies of the movie would be gone, I would have paid $4.00 for each rental, plus I would have had to have returned all of them by Friday. Granted, I did use a coupon, but still, the original rental price at Hollywood is still lower than Blockbuster.

Blockbuster blows. Hollywood video rocks! Just thought you'd like to know that. :)

Hollywood video once accused me of stealing a video. They sent a threatening letter to my mom. This was all because some stupid punk who worked there forgot to check the video in or something.

I guess I was just impressed mostly with the 5-day rental for ALL (including new) releases and the plethora of copies.

So you steal the movies because you don't like Blockbuster?

Here in Vermont, we have "Hollywood Video", except its some dude that turned his house into a video place... i am pretty sure he just buys the games and then rents them. Don't the video places have to pay fees in order to rent them?? plus this guy is in obvious trademark violation.. oh well

I agree, I think Hollywood is so much better than Blockbuster. Once after I opened my BB account, I did not go there for a few months. Next time I went to rent a movie they said my account had been deleted for inactivity, it had only been 2 and a half months since I last rented there. I had to open up another account.

The final straw for me was when I returned a movie in the movie drop on time, and they counted it as 3 days late. They threatened to turn me over to a collection agency over the late fees when I refused to pay. To hell with them.

Hollywood has never given me problems like that. Blockbuster sux big time.

Never used Hollywood Video but won't be using Ballbuster anymore. Returned a video on time - i.e on the due date and before noon -- but was charged a late fee. Ballbuster claimed that I did not return it on time. What a way to make extra money. Now, whenever i get their 99 cents coupon in the mail, I put down "return to sender" and drop it in the mailbox. Wonder how long it would take them to realize that I don't wanna do business with them. And, I tell people I know not to use them.

Same thing with me. I got a nice letter demanding $5 for being late when I turned it in 2 days late. I threw that letter away and haven't heard back. I'm never going to Blockbuster again. I usually do go to Hollywood Video, but their selection is smaller and around here they have almost switched entirely to DVDs (and I don't have a DVD player).

The stupidest thing happened to me with Blockbuster...I desperately had to rent a movie and in a different part of the city, so I go to BB and rent it, bring it back on time 3 days later, never go back to this BB again. Weeelll a couple of months later I get a letter in the mail from BB, threatening to send me to a collection agency bla blah blah b/c of unpaid fines!!!

Well here's the kicker... the amount I was overdue on their accounts was $0.00?!?!? WTH? Needless to say I did nothing and never heard from them again.

What a bunch of retards...

They all suck. Knocked by the wayside all those people with a dream, owning their own video store. Besides, they don't have any porn.

we just got a hollywood video too and it is nice price cut (2.59) from blockbuster. All though I have never paid full price for a blockbuster movie, I've only used them for th buy a movie get free rentals deals. Although the incompetent staff at blockbuster (manager especially) never seemed to understand the deals and ended up screwing us out of at least 5 free rentals. Also our hollywood has a pron room, just a little bonus in case I want to rent some someday.

I used to have a Hollywood video near me... it died just like West Coast Video did because they charged high rental prices ($5 for 4day rentals) and they had the crappiest DVD selection. But then this was back last year when DVDs weren't quite as ubiquitous and universally accepted by the studios (Divx was still around).

I just started going to the Blockbuster near me because I won a free year of rentals from a Wendy's chicken nugget instant win thingie. The Blockbuster manager couldn't figure out why my 1 yr rental card wasn't working... she even told me that I needed to go to the Blockbuster I had purchased at to redeem. Then I told her again, that I didn't purchase it... I won it and was following the directions for redemption from the contest. Pick a Blockbuster and go there... I hope they don't give me a hassle when I go again tonite for the 2nd rental.

If they charge me for late fees despite returning on time, I'd have to tell them to turn their bills sideways and shove it up their @$$ since technically they're already paying the rentals themselves.

chalk another one up for hating Blockbuster. They just suck ass. Best part about Hollywood Video is that if you are late, they just charge you another .99 and you get to keep it for another 5 days.

Hey, did you notice that the DVD's at Hollywood are in widescreen format too?

Blockbuster is the freakin' anti-christ. Hollywood I can deal with. I'd get NetFlix but the GF and I never have enough time to see the # of movies each month to justify it.

After ~3 months of inactivity yer account gets purged from the store's computer ('cause everything is backed-up to tape every night and backing up every single BB memeber account is unreal) but it still exists in BB's international database. If you had yer BB membership card w/you they wouldn've pulled yer info from the main database. But since you didn't have yer card w/you you had to open a new account.

Mr. Movies owns them all :)

$.99 new releases for 1 day or 5 days depending the movie every Monday. Lot's of copies of the same movie, and they stock criterion collection of a lot of movies.

Sweet!

They seem to be a midwest chain though.

You know, that does explain it. I didn't have my card with me.

They still suck though.
