Geesh, nonstandard size tires are so expensive.

I'm not looking to buy but was browsing wheels and tires for my car in the 19" rim diameter market. I believe the standard size for this wheel size is 235/35 or 245/35. These are going for about $200 each. The sidewalls of these tires are very thin so I want a little more "meat" to my tires. I can go 245/40 (nonstandard) for a thicker sidewall but geesh this size is now $300. Wow $1200 just for tires. Keep in mind these are like the cheaper brands out there.

i put a set of 245/45/17 on my 17" cobra Rs for 700

You're looking at the wrong type of tire, most likely. A majority of tires that size are W or Z rated, and that's why they're so expensive. They also make tyres that size without the high speed ratings that are CONSIDERABLY cheaper.

edit: I appear to be mistaken... things have changed since I last required tires like those 10 years ago.

14 and 15 tires are much cheaper.

16's seem a good compromise.

I use 14's on my one car,that came with 13's new;

my other vehicles all have stock 15 inch tires/rims.

Cost is much better.

I'm going to guess it's for the 98 Lexus GS400 he has in his sig.

19s are ehhh. IMO 17'' rims are a better deal, and the rubber would probably be cheaper for you too 🙂 Not to mention, you could probably sell your 19'' rims and buy some 17''s and have some extra cash left over for new rubber.
