Throughout middle school and high school, I always thought of being a nerd as better than being a geek. Now my college friends tell me that a geek is better than a nerd, and I simply can't accept this idea. To me, a geek is a complete social reject who's unkempt and wafer-thin. A nerd is an unusually intelligent person who (usually) takes delight in obscure imaginary or scientific... things (like computers or LOTR or Star Trek). It goes deeper than either of these, of course, but I think these are adequate for quick descriptions.
Was I mistaken for all those years? Is a nerd > a geek or vice versa?
