Gee what a surprise. Mugabe wins Zimbabwe election.

<< Zimbabwe's defeated opposition leader, Morgan Tsvangirai, has said the presidential election was rigged and that Robert Mugabe's win is "daylight robbery". >>

This should come as no surprise to anyone following that election. Mugabe has been president of Zimbabwe since its independence in 1980. While he made some good reforms at first, eventually he became corrupt. During this election, he banished foreign reporters, harrased oposition and opposition supporters etc.

Yet another volume in the "Why Africa is Totally F*cked" collection.

I hear ya, but honestly they are almost beyond help. Between the sky-high AIDS rates, and astounding levels of corruption in the various "governments" and "elected" officials, I'd say they have dug hemselves in pretty deep.

The other thing that's kinda sad is that they often aren't willing to accept or recognize what is happening and do something about it. There were some astounding stories recently in the paper where the ANC accused Jimmy Carter of "

<< being arrogant and contemptuous for criticizing the government's AIDS policies, and said he was trying to foist unsafe drugs on South African AIDS sufferers. >>

" There was another great quote (I can't remember from which african nation) about how there are "no homosexuals" in the entire country and all HIV tranmission was heterosexual.

By the time they pull their respective heads out of the sand, that's all that will be left....sand.

"Corrupt" is too mild a word to describe the Mugabe administration. What is going on over there is a textbook case of ethnic cleansing. The Mugabe regime supports violence, terror, and intimidation directed at people because of their race. Mugabe himself, I believe, is on record as stating that his goal is for all people of the "wrong" skin tone to leave Zimbabwe.

As it happens, in this case the targets of the racial oppression are white, while the perpetrators of the racial oppression are black. I can only imagine the international uproar, economic sanctions, and probable military intervention that would occur were the colors reversed.

Africa is a bad bad place to get involved.

Wiser words have seldom been spoken.

Mugabe is full of crap, but I'm not sure if this other guy would be any better.

Anyway, I guess it's time for the meddler--U.N.--to intervene in the name of supervising the election.

Most sub--Saharan African so-called elections are rigged, anyway. :disgust: But if South Africa is saying this one is legitimate, I guess I should give it another thought.

True, unless you want to have a second middle-east.

The best policy would be to try and help those that want to be helped. Its wrong to totaly forget about Africa.

On another note, its ironic. I saw a interview with Mugabe from the 60s in one of my classes. Back then he sounded like Martin King. He wanted independence for Zimbabwe, a fair and equal society and a brighter future for his country. Its sad what's become of him.

What other country would shoot you if you voted for the wrong person?

Could you imagine if Bush or Gore had men with artillery outside of the polling place in Floriduh..

"You there, with the Blue hair..Who did you vote for?" angry military guy.

"I think I voted for such and such"

"Wrong Answer", A man on the back of the jeep trains his machine gun on her and riddles her with bullets.

Next....

Think Zimbabwe would be like the US if Puff Daddy was in charge..just a bunch of thugs with guns

Absolute f**king bullsh!t. This is an absolute tradgedy. If you thought Florida was bad, the sh!t that went on during this election would make you throwup.

Why doesn't any other country in the world care to step in?
