Gee...I wonder if this could have anything to do with "global warming"

what happens if our poles are reversed? Is that bad?

Ahh who cares, I'll be long gone by then.

Well for starters all the soccer moms that rely on the digital compass in their mini van to get to and from Starbucks would suddenly all end up in Argentina.

I thought this phenomenon was a bad thing until I read your post, thank you for enlightening me.

Other planets in the solar system are experiencing "global warming" as well, at least from Mars to Neptune. They believe it is partially due to solar activity, but here on Earth, it is apparently all due to SUVs.

The ozone layer seems to be regenerating... At the very least you can't blame decreases in ozone on America anymore... We stopped using CFC's and other ozone depleting compounds years ago.

Ozone generation could also be due to all of the pollutants (specifically NOx and VOCs) thatw we pump into the air and react with sunlight.

This is true, but I'm specifically referring to stratospheric ozone.

Interesting. That means we could be in for a pole shift.

Which doesen't mean anything really. It's not catastrophic or anything.

No, it's a regular occurance in the Earth's history. In fact, it's been shown to happen on other planets and if I remember correctly the earth is due for a change soon.

I never understood why that would take place. Wouldn't that mean the earth's core would have to flip up side down so it's rotating the other way? :p

This has been happening long before humans, it will happen long after.

Global warming has zilch to do with it.

I've actually not done much reading about it, but from what I understand it has to do with the way the molten mass flows within the Earth. Basically, it reverses current. (current both as in electron flow and current as in direction).

There was a thread a while back on this subject that was very interesting.

Some research team made a computer model of what causes the Earth's magnetic field, or something along those lines.. and unexpectedly(or maybe expectedly), it reversed.

Actually as far as I know, a pole flip is very dangerous. There will be a period where the erth magnetic field is zero (or at least very low) thus not protecting us from the influx of charged particles anymore... Dunno if that would effect us really tho, after all these particles would also have to pass the atmosphere. But on the other hand charged particles could cause undesirable reaction with gas in the upper atmosphere (or desirable ones who knows)

From what I understand, it would be over the course of a few minutes at most. And there are very few effects whatsoever on anything that happens to be outside the magnetic field (At altitude near the poles)What would be interesting would be to watch a compass when it happens.

Or even better - magnetic gyro.

Ouch. That can't be good news for people living in California or near volcanos.

Funny how people still believe global warming is due 100% to humans. They ignore all the other possible explanations. Granted people might be partly responsible, but I don't think we have the most significant influence.

Don't generalize. It's just the liberals who think this.

It could be catastrophic for migratory birds...

Does anyone else see the irony in this statement?

Yes we stopped selling and using them here but the funny part is we still manufacture them and sell them to developing countries. Pretty good eh?
