Gecube 3850 512 MB

I think that $20 over the 3850 256 mb price is more realistic since it has 512 mb ram and a decent factory oc. When you factor in the inflated 3870 price then 209 actually seems like a downright steal 🙁

any combination of 2900xt, 3870, and 3850 is gtg. I don't think that they'll work with older x19x0 series cards, however.

kinda like 8800gt doesn't "require" a dual slot cooler, but many people are having noise/heat issues with that piece of crap cooler that 8800gt has. The 3850 256mb has much lower clocks than the 3870 so it can get by with the single slot design while still keeping noise/heat under control.

Hmm, Powercolour also have a 512MB card for pre-order in the UK with even higher core and mem clocks of 720MHz Core, 1800MHz RAM, and it's £20 ($40) cheaper than the cheapest HD3870. Only 55MHz down on the core, but 450MHz down on the RAM. Still, quite a nice boost over the stock 3850 specs.

And a fairly beasty cooler it seems.

I really should have just purchased the 3870 when they were on NewEgg for 219.99... I love the dual slot cooler and the card performs pretty well. Now I have some MSI on order at DELL and who knows when that will ship... :-/
