I think COD4 for PC is also in the weekly Circuit City ad, but it's only $10 off, so $39.99. Not a great deal but I've only seen it sold for $49.99 anyway!

Tempting- but if the pc controls suck like I've heard, I might as well give my wife the $20.

Been using 360 controller with several PC games ie. Crysis.
Many games are still not compatible with it so it goes (COD4, UT03).
Very happy with the game(s) I've tried so far.

I decided my wife didn't need my $20 so I took a trip to Circuit City. If I don't like the keyboard/mouse, I do have an Xbox360 controller I can try.

Local CC stores were out of GOW (St Louis metro) but BB PM'ed it anyway.
Played this game on 360 long ago, just wondering the PC version any better or worse.

If your CPU is overclocked I imagine that it would run just fine as long as you're playing at a reasonable resolution.

Gameplay on a 320MB 8800GTS (provided that guy has a nuts processor overclock that's still your video card)

what is wrong with you people! Using a console controller for fps games?!?!?! The mouse and keyboard DESTROYS every console controller ever in existence when it comes to fps games. The controls in gears of war are a thousand times better with the keyboard and mouse compared to the stupid console accelerated joystick for the x360. Not only is the mouse a hell of a lot more accurate its alot faster to aim as well.

For racing games and third person (non-fps) games like assasin's creed and grid, controllers actually do work better since they are pressure sensitive and work well for turning. For FPS games though, you are just slapping them in the face by using a controller.... especially crysis since it was made only for the computer.

Yes it is. I find it kind of weird because you just kind of shoot- there's no crosshair or anything. Probably why I was never a fan of console games.

Off-topic and probably slightly stupid but how do you use a 360 controller with a PC? Just plug it into the USB and it works? Or do you need special drivers?

For the wired controller you just need to download & install a driver from Microsoft. The wireless controller, however, you need a special USB device + driver.

Say what? The 360 game has crosshairs. How else are you suppose to aim? Keep in mind there's two method of shooting. One is shooting from the hip (no crosshair) and the other is an aimed shot (w crosshair).

The thing is, Gears's control scheme was designed specifically for the 360 controller. Every aspect of the control system keeps the controller in mind. I could definitely see gameplay in GoW on pc getting really screwed up since the control scheme wasn't set up for keybaord+mouse.
