Just rent it. Gears was/is a great game; however, the MP is somewhat lacking. Most of the people have migrated to other shooters by now, so unless you like playing with a really small community in a MP environment with some significant bugs, just play the campaign. It's a short (but very fun) campaign that can easily be finished inside a rental period. I really enjoyed the game, but unlike H3 or CoD4, there was little reason to put it back into my 360 after beating it.

I'm definitely looking forward to Gears2, as the first game was a ton of fun. Hopefully they will get the MP sorted out, and make the campaign a bit longer. They definitely did some cool stuff with the first one (I loved the reloading system which added some depth to the game). I'm sure Gears2 won't disappoint!
 
Meh, Gears 1 wasn't anything special. If they make a good campaign mode (good storyline too) with coop, count me in.

Did you play coop in Gears 1? It was the best console implementation of cooperative gameplay when it came out... I don't expect Gears 2 to be breaking much more ground, but I'm looking forward to it.

Gears 2 better be MUCH better than Gears 1. A lot of room for improvement on the co-op. Not bad when it first came out but going through that a second time would suck. The second game is supposed to be twice as long as the first. Hopefully more innovative as well.

Judging by the Tech Demo they showed at GDC featuring GoW characters, they'll be making some nice additions to the game engine. I especially like the destructible environments like where you can shoot a hole in the floor to see beneath you.

If they can improve the multiplayer lobby and add way more maps than came with GoW, I'll be good.

What are you comparing it to that it was just not bad? A lot of room for improvement in the co-op? Gears was actually one of the very few games that I felt like playing back through the moment I beat it.

What? I played coop Gears1 all the way through and IMO it was the best coop experience by far. I picked up Halo 3 last weekend and it's very 'meh' so far. I sure hope it gets better.
 
Can't wait, GOW was the reason i got a 360 and i played the MP nightly for ~6 months after release.
 
When I first played Gears, it was absolutely amazing. I had never been astounded by a game and it's story telling as much as when I got done with the first act. It's unfortunate that Gears 2 won't be able to invoke that "newness" of the first, but I'm still looking forward to it.

Being a Gears Head, I'm excited, and I like the idea of Dom searching for his lost love Maria. If I am going to invest myself in my character, he may as well be a romantic hero that doesn't sound like a pencil necked geek when he says 'sup bitches.

LOL, I don't remember the last time I played R6:V online. B/T working FT and going to grad school FT and having a kiddo, and the numerous bitches I keep around, I don't play much anymore.

I will say I did play COD4 with Jerry about a week or two ago. I've been playing a lot of The Orange Box (offline) so that's been consuming my time lately. B/T the 5 games on TOB, Rockband, (which I still haven't finished) I got a lot to finish up before R6:V2 comes out.
