what's up with this? Why are they pushing into an industry falling apart in the USA? I am wondering what kind of perks they're getting from this. Does anyone have any info? Pretty weird that it would be GE, who is buddy buddy with our presidential administration which just made a big blunder in loans. Confusing.

GE has no interest whatsoever in solar. This is a birther belief. bfdd has fluoride in his water.

LOL. Republicans really do live in a fantasy world don't they? Somehow you people have convinced yourself that solar energy is failing.

Get a brain, morans, it's free energy after the initial investment, and the only practical way to be off grid in a big portion of the country (hint hint for you gold burying paulbots).

Maybe because their company offshoots will be making them over seas? :whiste:

I agree. I am curious if they are getting any perks for this.
Their company subsidiaries make them overseas, and GE files a 25,000 page income tax bill owing zero taxes due to them claiming credit on tax breaks for renewable energy.
Brilliant. Nice way of congress shipping jobs overseas too.

I don't fault GE, Whirlpool, or Solyndra taking advantage of the US government at all.

All of the above? The fact that Obama is so buddy buddy with the CEO of GE should be making the libs on here spitting mad - if they were true to their convictions.

All Libs on this forum that know anything realize that President Obama is a Corporatist which makes the G.O.P. talking point that he is the "enemy" of Business laughable at best and only their weak minded sheep would lap up that garbage.

There are far better and cheaper ways to be off the grid. The only reason solar is attractive at all is because of the massive subsidies.

It is the absolute worst way to generate power for the cost. Initial investment cost takes 15-20 years to recoup at which time the panels have outlived their lifespan and have to be replaced. Spend $30K for power for 20 years to spend another $30k for the next 20 years. No thanks.

Edit:

forgot the additional $4K every 5 years for replacing of the battery banks, that is another $16K added to the bill every 20 years.

Ya you can definitely see how it is eating way at his brain :whiste:

They just announced that their new thin-film plant will be in Colorado. US made will likely be a requirement for many utilities and government entities
(at least nominally via rebates/financing) who are to be the biggest customers.

Paybacks vary wildly but I'm still not on board with solar as a solution for most of the country at current price levels and efficiencies. It would not however cost the same amount per watt to replace a 15-20 year old system in the future just given the reduction in cost we've seen over the last 20 years.
