My washing machine stopped spinning (during the spin cycle)! The belt is just slipping on the motor. It is a GE profile Washer and it came with just directions but absolutely nothing on how to tightening/changing the belt (I do have a new belt.) Online @ GE.com all it has is a copy of the manual I already have. Should I pay for a service manual at Sears? Yes they sell the belts for $4 but the service manual is much more than that.

Anyhow I took the front off and it seems the belt is slipping right pass the motor wheel. Changing the belt I think is the way to start but I have no directions and it looks as if getting to the middle wheel to replace the belt will be interesting to someone with fat hands! Anyone a GE tech? Or have experience with this sorta thing?

if it helps the model # is WPSR3100W0WWW

Last thing I used the online troubleshooter and it took a page where it said "Call your GE service technician" :(

New Edit Mon AM
My wife called a repair guy before I could take a look at it today. Repair guy said it has a bad Transmission! eek also that could have damaged the clutch as well.

It has a warranty except they charge labor... Labor could be more than half as much as a new washing machine ($306) I'm gonna see if they will wave the labor and service call as the repairman said if you put up enough stink they will not charge you.

I called GE and they have a guy coming out Wed morning and I am gonna nail him down on price. I told the lady on the phone the trans said it had a 10 year warranty. then she said it had 5 years. I told her it said right in the book "10 years warranty on transmission and tub" she said ok "show the book to the repair man. " I also told her that a guy already said it needed a new transmission and a clutch and she said she noted it but still didn't tell me anything about the service call or labor so I guess when the GE guy gets there I will tell him I was under the impression from the phone call and the manual which clearly states "We will replace at no charge to you" that it should be free. I suppose we'll have to see Wed if I can get it for free or else I'll tell him to leave if it will cost almost enough as a new washer.

Ack! this sucks :disgust::evil:

I see no adjustments at all for the belt :( I do not even see a quick way to get it off...

Is the motor mounted on slotted holes? Perhaps a sliding, spring-loaded affair?

Usually it is.

If it just started slipping, then it is likely the belt. Just swap it out. The motor is held in with 4 bolts that are in elongated holes I believe. I will get mroe info for you by tommorow.

God I love comments like this.

Is it an early model?
GE has had MANY problems with transmissions on "profile" washers.

If the warrenty is for the part only tell them to ship it to YOU.
Tell them you will replace it
