I must admit I am not telling the truth.
I didn't mention that I got about half way into the other pint before I had to stop and get gas. I was just way too drunk by the time I was done and forgot to finish drinking.
double lane change at a light? only one car back, so im sure you crossed solid lines, which is illegal in every state ive ever driven in*.

*which more than likely means a right hand turn from a left lane in the eyes of the law.

if you were only one car back, id bet my left nut that the line was solid, and my right one that the line was white.
how far were you from the intersection when you changed out of the left hand turn lane into the right lane and turned?

you mentioned someone let you over, this implies that someone let you over into the middle lane..but if you changed lanes twice, what about the other lane ?
I'm guessing here..you thought that 2nd lane was empty, but it turned out that there was a cop coming to the light in that lane.
edit- so he might have cited you for an improper lane change, or maybe for turning right from the center lane, not your initial movement from the left turn lane to the center lane.

I have no sympathy for you cause I was once hit by some a$$hat who was in the left turn lane but all of a sudden decided he needed to go straight instead. Just pay the damn fine.

Although this may differ for each state, in NY it's perfectly legal to cross a solid white line. It's not advised, but it's not illegal. (I read this in a AAA magazine)

Now remember from Driver's Ed when the nice teacher said that it's illegal to cross over the solid white line?
I bet you the left turn lane was had a solid white line which means you can't legally cross it once you are in the left turn only lane.
The cop probably busted you for that infraction, although it seems pretty silly to get nailed for something like that in your situation of course. If it was a busy street with green lights for you and stuff, then that'd be more dangerous.
However, breaking the law is still breaking the law and the cops can give you a ticket just like that and you can't do a damn thing about it unfortunately.
Just pay it.

You're correct for NYS. Here is what the DMV site says for NYS.
Single solid line: You may pass other vehicles or change lanes, but you should do so only if obstructions in the road make it necessary or traffic conditions require it.
That being said, what he did may still be illegal in North Carolina. He should call up a police station or consult TicketAssassin for more information.

None of the above. The infraction wasn't that he made a right turn from the left lane, it was that he changed lanes within 100 feet of the intersection. You're not supposed to change lanes while entering or leaving an intersection. I remember this from my defensive driving course and I try to abide by it, but tons of people do it all the time. The idea is if you change lanes going through an intersection say into the right hand lane as someone is making a right on red from the cross street, boom! I know this is the case in NY, not sure about elsewhere but it makes sense. It is pretty lame that he gave you a ticket when you weren't moving through the intersection when you made the lane change though. I think you can fight this one in court and beat it.
