I have an Hitachi GD 5000 DVD drive, but I do not know how to enable the headphone jack at the lower left corner of the faceplate of the drive. I have my speaker system jacked in through the audio port on the SB.

It'd be nice to play games sometimes without the sonic shockwave knocking (!) my girlfriend through a wall.

I am sure the remedy is simple, but then again...so am I.

You can use the headphone jack on your drive to listen to CD's but that's about it.

yep, the headphone jack on all cd/dvd drives are enabled only when you're playing an audio cd in the drive.

Or you could use a line-splitter to use headphones at the same time
