gcc 2.95 vs 3.02

<< GCC 3.0 is new and certainly has a number of bugs to fix. And it's stricter on syntax so it may choke on some older code. >>

When RH first used the 3.0 gcc some of the developers were angry because it was a development release and not a real release. I could be mis-remembering the crap flying around back then though.

Does anyone know about speed differences between code produced by the two? I'm hoping 3.x will give a little bit of a boost because my Linux desktop admittedly feels pretty slow (though I think it's a result of X11, slow KDE code and poorly optimized compiled code, but fixing out of the three can't hurt any). If I could get KDE 3.0 (supposed to be improved code-wise) compiled with GCC 3.0 and running on DirectFB . . . . man that would be paradise.
