Hi...
I have a 2500+/NF7v2.0 running on my dad's new comp, and I'm trying to max out the overclocking potential with the stock HSF. So far I'm at 2.1+GHz, but 2.2GHz is a no go even with 1.7V vcore/chipset voltage. Even at 2.1+GHz, my CPU temp is up to 62C, is that much cause for concern?

Anyway, I have a spare SVC GC68 lying around, but IIRC it was only rated up to 1800+, but of course at the time I bought it there weren't even Bartons around. Anyway, I'm wondering if the GC68 is any better than the stock 2500+ cooler? I have a choice of either the default GC68 fan or another 80mm 4800rpm fan. I would prefer to use the default one though since I wanna save the other fan for other applications, and its pretty loud for my dad anyway.

Thanks!

hytek369, I was hoping to have some general concensus of the GC68's performance in comparison with the stock AMD one before trying, because the stock cooler is really a bitch to attach, so I would hate to have to attach it back again should the GC68 turn out to be subpar. It's also a waste of my thermal grease, which I'm kinda running out on.

alexruiz, thanks. Have you had any personal experience with the 2?

I don't have any experience with the GC68/GC69 personally. However, based on what I've read, I think you could expect the same performance (maybe slightly better) than the retail AMD HSF, but the fan on the GC68/69 would be noticeably more quiet than the stock AMD fan.

Thanks BlueWeasel. While noise is a concern, its not the main priority right now. The stock AMD cooler isn't silent by any means, but its quiet enough since I don't have a lot of other case fans running inside to add to the noise.

NokiaDude, I don't intend to spend any more money on cooling. I was intending to stick to the stock cooler in the first place, but since I have an extra cheap GC68 lying around I thought I'd find out if it was any good. :)

Looks like BlueWeasel is right. It cools slightly better than the stock cooler(60C load compared to 62C load) but of course it could be due to mounting and amount of AS3 I applied too. 2C is within the margin of error I think, but oh well I'm not gonna put the stock cooler back now :)
