Obviously I can't comment on what you've heard or what you know.

But it's entirely possible to ground a DC transformer/rectifier(/power brick). In fact I think the difference between AC side 2 pin and 3 pin (3rd being the standard ground) should be an indication of the the "brick"'s capabilities.
