With the revelation that Sally Ride was gay it brings up the question of gays in space.
So, should gay people be allowed in the astronaut program??

I think it's an affront to god. Since he lives in the sky and he hates gayness, why should we shoot people in rockets up so close to him? That's got to make him mad.

And you don't want to get God mad... Our God is a loving God, but He might send a tsunami to Thailand or Japan or somewhere and kill hundreds of thousands of people or something.

We should send gays into space. But single gays only. If we send up civil-unioned or <gasp> married gays, Chick-Fil-A will pull their food from NASA or private space companies Free In-Flight Food program.

lmao, is that a real question?

Many people are against gays in the military and against gays being allowed to be teachers. Seems allowing them to be in the enclosed area of a space ship is a legitmate question.

What if they make a pass at a fellow astronaut? Or if their gay rubs off?

Seriously, I wouldn't ask the question except for the great issue that has been made of it in other occupations.

DeMint: Space turns astronauts gay, time to defund NASA

Washington, DC – In 1983 Sally Ride became a hero as the first American woman to travel into space. She was also happily married to fellow astronaut Steve Hawley, a fact not lost on South Carolina Senator Jim DeMint (R).

DeMint announced today that he will be introducing legislation to freeze all funding for NASA pending an investigation to determine what role space travel has in fostering homosexuality.

“I can’t say I’ve followed Miss Ride’s career over the years,” said DeMint, “but last I heard she was flying the space shuttle and she was married to a man. Now we fast-forward twenty-five years and she’s a lesbian? It could be a coincidence, but I’m not sure as a country we should be willing to take that chance.”

NASA administrators were quick to point out that there have been hundreds of Americans in space and that there is no known higher incidence of homosexuality.

“That’s exactly the problem,” responded DeMint. “We don’t know how many astronauts are gay and if they were gay before they went into space. That’s exactly what we intend to find out.”

Ok, I am pretty sure this is satire. But you have to admit it IS possible.

Is there a reason why not? :colbert:

Of course there is! What if two gays, outside of the terrestrial reach of the Defense of Marriage act, tied the knot in space?

Houston, we'd have a problem. This wouldn't be inconsequential, i.e., it wouldn't be a "zero gravity" situation even as it literally was one!

Two astronauts fondling each other's astronuts, touching each other's tang!

Who would want to turn on the news and see a short vid clip of an astronaut asking, "Does this space suit make me look fat?"

Emission Control would be powerless to stop one crewman from exploring another crewman's "dark side of the moon."

There could be multiple unauthorized "re-entries."
