just a heads up... gay couples with kids is pretty common, and in my mind at least, is the most important reason that same-sex couples need the same legal rights as heterosexual couples.

it's pretty easy for a lesbian to get impregnated... now imagine your wife trying to get decent medical care when she doesn't qualify under your insurance.

bridgen, i dont like ass-backwards, old-fashioned, tight-ass, bible-thumping bigot either 🙂 but you make it sound like those are the only people who are against gay-marriage. most friends of mine around here are 'supposed to be' liberal with open-minded apporach toward most issues, being anti-oil-war and pro-choice and whatnot.

think about all those racism threads that come up on ATOT. most agree everyone has a prejudice (some even call it racism). yet these spntaneously occuring negative ideas arent considered malignant unless someone actually goes out of his way to treat people of other races differently, "push his issue" to make other people's lives worse.

i just dont see how homosexuality is any different from other forms of sexual abberations at its core. now, we dont really have to agree on everything, do we? its not like i would run some kind of anti-gay-marriage campaign either, if things go their way then good for them 🙂

My opinion is that there should be "civil unions". Marriage was built off a religion (think where people get married) and this is the fundamental issue that people have with calling it marriage also.

I think logically that if you called it a civil union and gave them all the same rights as a married couple that, that would be the best option, but I can understand that gays want to have the title of being married and don't blame then for that in any way, shape, or form, just that for it to work it will have to be classified as a civil union IMO.

I'd wager about 90% of those who say this couldn't care less what it's called, and are hemming and hawing because it'd be non-PC to come right out and say that they hate gays, that they want control over others and this is a good opportunity, etc... might even be subconscious in many cases. Nothing to be embarassed about, really, hating and fearing the unknown and the different is instinctual, and the strength of various instincts varies on an individual basis. For instance I'm terrified of the harmless wood spiders in my area (~2.5-3" across max) despite knowing they're non-poisonous and non-aggressive, and despite the fact I've seen enough by now I should be desensitized.
