once you go black, you never go back...

I was kinda worried about my wife last weekend.

While at a wedding we had some white cake, and some chocolate cake. She said she did not like the chocolate cake as much as the white cake.

I told her something like, "thank goodness, once you go chocolate you never go back."

One possible reason could be due to the common stereotype that black men have larger penises, this could cause more anal microtearing as well as penile microtearing, the more tearing the more entry points for HIV.

Black people are poorer and less have health care.
Maybe they can't afford condoms?

Blacks are the poorest ethnic group and always have been. Poor people will always have a higher degree of infection and disease. Poor people tend to be less clean and less likely to take proper sexual protections.

Its because of socio-economic issues.

Same reason why black women have higher rates of HIV/AIDS than white women.

Cause and effect?

Black bi-sexual men have a high rate of HIV infection, which causes a higher rate of infection in women.

I think you are stereotyping.

How can you justify your statement that poor have a higher rate of infection?

AIDs is the number one killer of Black Americans in age groups like 21-40 or some crap like that. The HIV/AIDs rate in the Black community rivals that of some African nations. It's truly sad and I honestly have a hard time finding any excuse for it. Early 90s I could understand, but 20 years later and tons of education and dollars spent on spreading the word. yet rates are still terrible

You are completely in the wrong here.

Both straight black males and females have many times higher rates of HIV infection compared to their white counterparts. Same goes for black gay men.

Its all related to socio-economic issues and everything they relate to.

LOL @ all of these replies. If anything, it has everything to do with strength of homophobia in the black community. Gay black men are afraid to come out - being openly gay is a stigma that the community does not openly accept. I think this is also why you will see a higher infection rate among black women - many gay black men continue to have relationships with women in an effort to stay in the closet.

So how does this relate to HIV, you say? I means that gay black men are less likely to get tested for HIV out of fear of being outed. HIV is largely thought of as a "gay" disease - for men, if you come out an tell people you have HIV, you will most likely be perceived as gay by default.

When we look at the intense need to hide one's sexuality, it most certainly leads to a culture where closeted black men often tend to resort to anonymous sex to fulfill their needs (inherently more dangerous when it comes to STDs).

But hey - don't take my word for it - just google "being black and gay". There's enough evidence there to support this theory.

Thank you for not being a dumbass. This should be the last post in this thread.

In my few days here, I am starting to find out that there are a lot of assholes in this community. After reading some of the comments here, I've started to question whether or not I should go to another community.

Why would that be the last post of the thread? We have not even talked about genetics.

Certain racial groups carry a higher rate of genetic resistance then other groups. There have been various debates about whether Europeans have genetic resistance to HIV, while non-Europeans are more prone to contract HIV.

There is the CCR5 gene mutation that causes resistance to HIV. Besides CCR5, what else could cause resistance to HIV?

If it was a socioeconomic reason, then why dont we see higher rates of HIV in poor regions of the US? Does alabama and mississippi have a higher rate of HIV in the poor white communities as compared to the rich white northern communities?

Could be genetics if the rates of Unprotected sex are the same or similar between the different groups.

I have read about people who have been exposed to the HIV virus and have been immune to its effects. Maybe one or two people. As I recall they have been white.

It is worth the effort to find out the exact reasons for this disparity imo.

Looking at some of the other comments in this thread, there will be no intelligent conversation about the subject matter.

When Europeans colonized the caribbean islands, the indigenous populations were enslaved to help with sugar cane production.

With no natural resistance, the indigenous populations were killed off by small pox and whooping cough.

To replace the the indigenous populations, blacks were imported from Africa. The blacks were physically stronger then the indigenous populations and resistant to Europeans diseases.

Being resistant to small pox and whooping cough, but prone to HIV, there has to be some kind of genetic code there.

Maybe, they just have more sex. Frequency needs to be added to the equation.

I was thinking the same thing, maybe blacks have more sex then whites?

I actually want to get tested for this because apparently my family comes from a region in Lithuania that has a 15-20% rate of the gene mutation occurring. Would be neat to find out if I inherited that mutation and if I could donate blood or marrow to halp science.

Lot of truth to this. Blacks in general take it in the shorts on pretty much anything medical, as diagnoses are often more difficult due to dark skin, less chance of being resistant to our usually European or Asian new pathogens, and medicines and vaccines are less likely to be adequately tested on blacks. And as Texas Hiker points out below, both known genetic resistance mutations (or at least, both known to me - which is not necessarily the same thing) are Caucasian in origin. But I'd say the stigma is one of if not the largest factor. I also wonder if they corrected for single parent homes, a factor sometimes so large that, for instance, correcting for it can reduce black crime to statistically even with white crime. Kids from single parent homes are on average more likely to have pre-marital sex and more likely to do so at an earlier age - and generally speaking, the lower the age the less the sense.

Um, because to a gay man the prospect of a large black penis is more attractive than the concept of an emaciated toothless meth head with bloody sores?

The title of the thread leads you to believe that there is some sort of epidemic within the black gay community with this disease...it certainly is and many mediums of entertainment focused on black people now stress for safe sex and HIV testing.

In general, I feel that my community has become more aware of the issue but it has also led to more homophobia within the community. Women are finding out more and more that their significant others are on the "down low" and many of those women find out they have HIV/AIDS and they go out and purposefully infect other people because they are mad.

With that being said...still, HIV/AIDS according to the article infects %3 of the Gay black population. I am glad that number is not that high because gay men have also become aware too and they seem to be protecting themselves.

Anyway, I don't think it is a matter of who has bad genes and who doesn't. Historically, whites carried tons of diseases to the countries they pillaged...but that isnt the topic of discussion. Its not about genes, its about awareness.

*I wont be back for comment until after 9:30EST. I have to go to work!
