At work, they fielded a new piece of equipment. People that have been here a while (I've only been here a year) were offered the position. They all turned it down, probably because it involved more work. They finally got around to offering it to me and another employee and we accepted.
Fast forward 3 months. The two of us just moved into a new office, leaving the other 7 co-workers sharing an office. We been partly relieved of some of the training duties the others are doing so we can concentrate on what we are doing.

I repainted the room on my dime and we have it set up pretty well. The other co-workers whined because of our new digs but they had the opportunity to take the job and declined.

Besides whining, people have been messing with our name plates at our door by changing the order or turning them upside down. Someone also just keyed mine.

The best thing, other than pissing off my co-workers? I seldom need headphones any more as my partner is gone often.

Yeah, I'll never understand that attitude. I see it all the time here; someone works hard, takes initiative, and all of the people that sat there on their asses doing nothing get all bent out of shape when the first person gets promoted, gets new digs, a bigger bonus, or whatever. If you want those things, then do something about it!

What a bunch of loser asshats. They're jealous and feel the need to take it out like, as you said, babies.

Take a big olds shit on all of their desks.

Put a PostIt note that reads "LOL" next to your keyed nameplate.

Years ago, has a friend that worked at NCR in Fla. They got bought out and were offered a $$ package of $25K, iirc (that sounds high) or continue with the new company. He took the $$ and came back on as a contractor and essential personnel making 3x the pay (no benefits). Co-workers were pissy about it but they didn't have the balls to take the risk like he did.

We flip nameplates here all the time for fun but keying them is pretty damn pathetic. For more fun I would just gloat about the digs to the people who it affects the most

Many people are just scared to try something new regardless of the amount of work.

I usually volunteered for those things if I could see it working to my advantage and better working conditions (like a new, quiet, office) would definately count.

I've never been afraid to try new things and find learning to be fun.

Usually you can screw-up quite a bit because nobody else knows what's going on either.

I'm pretty young in the work place and I see it myself already...

I referred a friend for a job that I knew would fit PERFECT into the role. All I did was get him the interview. Granted I pushed it a few times because I knew how good this guy would be.

He interviewed, got the job, and literally took off. He was considered one of the best workers in the first few months, if not the best. Some of our employees were asked to train some other new people that came in some months down the road, and they turned it down. My friend said sure, and it gave him better hours comparatively to what others get. Well the people that turned it down got pissed and whined and called the guy names to their supervisors, saying the supervisors favored my friend... Like you would think it is a playpen or something. These guys are 40yo+.

They already called him the "golden boy" and pretty much said he only got the job because of me. Obviously the results of his work show otherwise... it's not like I do his work for him, too. My friend got promoted after a year or so but luckily so did one of the douche bags so he didn't have much to complain about. They came at right about the same time.

This story pretty much describes what happened to a buddy of mine and his close friend to a T. Clearly the best candidate for the job, but people always bitch because they didn't get it... and then bitch about the guy that guy him the interview, and stayed out of the way during the interview process.
