I spent a clutch of money on gifts this year.
I invited the in-laws to my house for Christmas dinner.
Fed said in-laws (wife's rents, and her brother and his girlfriend), ham, pie, cole slaw, egg nog, rolls etc...
Had to put up with the in-laws who I can't stand.

What did i get for gifts?

A FSCKING LOTTERY TICKET!

What the hell? They all make more money than I do and don't have to support a whole family.

Can't wait until I'm in Denver. 1800 miles away. Far enough that they won't be at my house all the dam time.

I moved 2900 miles away from mine. Heaven!

They gave you a lottery ticket for a gift? That's about as cold, thoughtless and impersonal as you can get, bordering on an outright insult. I would think better of them if they hadn't got you anything at all.

I love this place!

Yeah I thought of spiking the egg nog with phosphoric acid (I have a bottle in my back yard...) but they are family. Sigh.

Shoot, they didn't even put the ticket in a card. Just handed it to me.

At least I did win $4.

What's strange is they didn't used to be. 10 years ago they were great at gift giving. Not even expensive stuff, but thoughtful stuff, ya know?

Sigh.
