What did you think of the film?

From what I remember I liked the film. Was interesting and good. I saw it a few years ago and can't remeber. I think I'll go watch it again.

Excellent, excellent stuff. The building used in the movie is Frank Lloyd Wright's design - the Marin Civic Centre in Marin County, CA. :)

Excellent movie. One of my favorites.

But I thought I heard the building they used was one of the Cal Poly Pomona campus buildings?

You're both right actually. The Space Agency building was the Marin Civic Center (awesome!!!) and Vincent and Jerome's apt building exterior was CLA building at Cal Poly Pomona.

Also, all of the PA announcements at the Space Agency were in Esperanto... cool stuff!

Excellent movie. They ripped the basic theme from Heinlein's 1954 book "Beyond this Horizon" but made it dark instead of Heinlein's usual optimism.

From imdb.com:

The piece played by the six-fingered pianist is based on Impromptu in G Flat Major, Op. 90, No. 3. by Franz Schubert (1797 - 1828). However, the creators did a beautiful job embellishing the piece with additional notes/harmonies so that it "can only be played with twelve[fingers]," as the Uma Thurman character notes.

After that part in the movie, I had wondered if in fact the music was playable only by a person with 12 fingers.

Here's a site with a lot of interesting stuff about the movie:

http://www.sciflicks.com/gattaca/ Check out the forums too.

This was one of the first movies I got on DVD. It was still somewhat expensive at the time so when I decided to start my DVD collection, I made it my point to only get the movies I really loved on DVD. So this is one of my faves. But then thanks to hot deals, I added a lot of junk to my collection b/c they were so cheap. Time to start weeding them out.
