I was downloading the Gattaca soundtrack, and loved it so much that I bought the CD off of Amazon - Michael Nyman is awesome; can't think of anyone better to compose the soundtrack for that incredible movie. Anyway, 3 of the songs on that CD are titled "The Morrow", "Second Morrow", and "Irene and the Morrow." So, my question is, WTF is "the Morrow"? I know the protagonist (co-protagonist?) name is Jerome Morrow, but is he what "The Morrow" is referring to? And what's the significance or meaning behind those 3 soundtrack titles?

I've never seen the movie or listened to the soundtrack, but does the morrow mean tomorrow?

So Morrow = the life of Vincent Morrow
Second Morrow = life of Vincent as Jerome Morrow
Irene and the Morrow = Irene relationship with "Jerome"?

There's a lot of symbolism in that film (one of my favorites) so it wouldn't surprise me if there were some alternate meaning/wordplay with the word Morrow. I think your "tomorrow" idea makes the most sense... much of the film deals with future events as they relate to past ones. Also, Jerome seems to be living every day in the effort to avoid detection so he can go on his mission--always has his eye on tomorrow (so to speak). When he becomes smitten with Irene, that throws a potential wrench into his future.

Nyman is my favorite film composer. The first soundtrack of his I heard was for "The Piano" and I was hooked from that point. First time I saw Gattaca I knew within the first five minutes that he was the composer (without reading the credits) because his minimalist style is so unique. He makes such beautiful haunting melody out of seemingly dischordant note clusters and strange rhythms. Taken in pieces it's pretty weird, but played as a whole (and as loud as possible) it comes together very well!

I too bought the Gattaca soundtrack last year after not being able to find mp3s >128kbps. It was out of print at that time and I had to turn to ebay to get it. Well worth it though.

You'd do well to check out other MN soundtracks--he's done a bunch. Notables are "Prospero's Books" and "The Draughtsman's Contract". He also has a best-of CD that is very highly regarded.
