Gateway xhd3000 vs 3008wfp, by today's standards

Hi Guys,

I am going to buy a 30 inch screen and these two still seem to be the typical choices. Does anybody have any compelling reasons to buy one or the other? I need it for just about eveything you could possibly use a monitor for. Day to day work, games, etc.

Movies are not something I will use, and the display will only ever be hooked up to a PC.

I'm kind of in the same situation as you. However I've heard a lot of bad about the scaler in the Dell, so I'm looking at the 3007WFP-HC which doesn't have the scaler.

To be honest though, I don't quite know. Does the XHD3000 have the scaler?

Edit: It does... I'm steering clear from scalers :D

Why would you not want a scaler? I mean, if you run it at the default res you wouldn't have to worry about the scaling right? Unless you were going to run it at non-res all the time or something.... but I want full res.... and I kinda like the idea of a scaler. I have stood next to someone before showing me "input lag" I can't see what they are talking about.

I was close to buying the Gateway (loads of inputs, remote, plus a very good scaler apparently) but there were a lot of complaints about quality and customer service (from what I saw when I googled it) so I didn't buy it.

I think if you run everything at 1:1 or use the video card driver for scaling you don't have to worry about the scaler right?

sRGB PVA vs wide gamut IPS.

Gateway apparently has fixed the screw problem, so unless there's a backlight bleed epidemic on the xhd3000s there shouldn't be any notable quality snags. Get the cheaper one, I guess. Or the one with the better warranty or return policy, if you're cautious.

The gateway is 990 at td and the dell is 1160. I just don't know what I am going to do. Lemme go get the gateway at frys so I can run some tests and then return it. I wish I could see the dell.

You would think so, but the Dell 3008 runs the scaler all the time, even when receiving native 2560 input. Not sure on the Gateway but the 3008's issues are well documented.

I ended up with a 3007WFP-HC refurb, & I'm very happy with it. I paid a fraction of what the 3008 runs, which is a nice bonus as well.

I'd rather have the IPS.

But with the scaler issues, i'd look at something w/o one, like the 3007WFP-HC, or the LG 30" (it's cheaper than most if you can find it).

Does anybody know if I can use this sound bar as the center chanel with my z550's? That would actually come in handy as my center is blown....
