Gateway woes...

I have a friend who has an old gateway pc and i was wondering if it could be upgraded to a celeron 2 800. Of course i spoke to the incompentant monkeys with phones at Gateway, but they told me that the board was limited to a 400mhzPII. My question is if i can by chance put the cpu in there and if the multiplier goes that high.

Is that PC66 RAM? If so, you're going to have a hard time running a 100 MHz FSB.

Also, it might not be able to handle the Celeron II's voltage.

Gateway MBs suck for upgradeability

but lets have a look:
it's got a 440BX mainboard = change the ram to 100MHz and the system should be capable of running 100 MHz FSB
max clock multiplier unknown = big problem... have to try it with a faster processor
voltage = biggest problem... no trying here, need the spec sheets

actually not as all present intel cpus are multiplier locked!

Why not? You can run Coppermines on plenty of BX boards...they have just about the best performance you can get out of a PIII.
