I know there aren't many Gateway fans around and this isn't a Pentium M, but the more M10s out there the merrier...

Gateway Updates Business PCs

Gateway's new 675 notebook is not designed for mobility, Stinson said. The 17-inch widescreen display will help financial professionals view two spreadsheets side-by-side on the screen while they enter figures on a numerical keypad. Most notebooks don't come with the numerical keypad found on the right side of a typical desktop keyboard.

The Gateway 675 comes with a 3.06-GHz Intel Pentium 4 processor with hyperthreading, 512MB of RAM, a 60GB hard drive, a CD-RW/DVD-ROM drive, a Radeon 9600 graphics card from ATI Technologies with 64MB of video memory, and 802.11g wireless networking for $1999. It is expected to launch November 6.

Has anyone used this notebook yet? I realize it just came out but I know there are some early-adapters here. :D I just stopped by a Gateway store and took a look at it myself. Besides the fact that the resolution isn't very high, the notebook seems to be well built (better than a Dell, at least). Other than that, of course, I have no further reactions to it.

If I might ask a question here: What happens to desktop chips put into notebooks? What are the sacrifices made (besides battery life and size)? I'm seriously considering this notebook and wanted to know what I'd be giving up by going with a desktop chip.

Thank you.

I want to get a laptop soon and so far EVERYONE EXCEPT Dell has released the ATI 9600 for their laptops. I really wanted a Dell 8600 because the 1920x1200 WUXGA screen is EXCELLENT. I guess Dell doesn't want our hard earned money since they are taking forever to release a notebook with that card. Btw, the 9600 XT card for their 8600 laptops in France and Spain has been removed from these two sites. So I now I wonder when Dell will actually release this card.
