Just wondering if anybody would know if either of these two laptops would be able to run The Sims 2. It doesn't need to be beautiful, just playable. My sister is going of to university and wondering which laptop to get and would like to be able to play at least one game.

Of awful motherboard graphics the Radeon is less awful than Intel.

A much better choice would be a Dell E1505 with the Radeon X1400 graphics upgrade. Here in the states it would be about $800 USD.

I can't recommend any gateway or toshiba laptops, they fall apart literally! One thing that should break first is the power outlet, funny to see in an electronics class where Pentium, 486 and PII machines are most common then a black sheep of them all, a motherboard from a toshiba laptop, it was a pentium M! Thats how new it was, it was in the class because it stopped working so the kids played with it instead.

Dont get toshiba or gateway, get something else.

I'd go with the Gateway with the X200 video card just because of the better video and I'm not very impressed with current Toshiba laptops. My sister just got one for college and I don't care for it much at all. The battery life is terrible (~1 hour) because it came with a less than standard size battery. Also the touch pad buttons have to be pressed very hard for them to consistently register. The screen is nothing special either. Overall I'm not impressed with it at all. OTOH I don't know about current Gateway laptops.

HP's DV2000 and DV6000 series notebooks are pretty nice. They come in Turion X2 or Core Duo versions and have that new HP imprint thing on the outside that's almost scratch proof. It also has a latch-less design.

i agree with dave on the x1400. you can easily configure an e1505 for under $1000 with an x1400
