I just bought a in-win S500 case with a 300 watt power supply. The question I have is my old case was a factory Gateway with one 80MM in the rear, no front fan and a 200 watt power supply. I Am running a 550E@825MHZ with a alpha P3125 fan. My cpu idled at 78.80F at night and 87F to 89F after several hours of quake3. This weekend a friend changed cases over and the in-win has a 80MM in the front and a 80MM in the rear. I also added a harddrive cooler in the front with 2 small fans that seem to suck air well. This new case also has the left cover vented. My temps have not really changed?? At night with the house at 73F my cpu still runs 78.80F the only difference is the hottest it ever runs now is 86F after Q3 or nascar heat. I was hoping for cooler temps with the new case an added fans. Any thoughts? ( Last week it got fairly cold outside and my house was 64F and cpu was 69F with the old case) Do you consider these temps with the new case ok?? While surfing the net it runs a steady 80-82F.

Those temps sound pretty good. I wouldn't worry about it too much. You're gateway case apparentlywasn't getting very hot anyways, so the new case couldn't improve much. (of course it suprises me that the gateway even had an exhaust fan, none of the ones that I look at do)

Let me guess you had one of the those gateway cases with the odd shaped power supply that can't be upgraded.

If you're talking to me no, they were standard ATX mid-towers. No fan anywhere but in the power supply (not even a fan on the cpu heatsink). I work in the computer service department of a college, and I've seen some weird stuff. It has definately convinced me that both Dell and Gateway are utter crap.

Tonec, I had that same problem. But it is an easy fix. Just borrow a drumel and cut a space for the power outlet. 20 minutes, max. Gateway towers, especially thier big ones are actually really nice. I plan on keeping mine for quite a while.

I tried the dremel already on my case. It worked well on inwin and enlight cases but Gateway uses some very thick steel on their midtowers, or at least my model. But it is a fairly quiet case so I decided to keep it even with the 200w ps.
