Gateway supplied AMD M/Bs

I know nothing! but perhaps someone out there can help..

Gateway UK are not currently shipping Creative Blaster Live! soundcards with AMD (Select) models because, NEAR-QUOTE FROM SALES SUPPORT, "we're changing to a new motherboard, and the LIVE! card is TOO LARGE, physically, FOR THE MOTHERBOARD" ! What on earth can this mean? Is there some new dinky-size sound and graphic cards (albeit with same size PCI slot) around the corner? Are Gateway mad, or just the sales-support team?😕

That's really weird.

Maybe they're using MicroATX motherboards & cases, and there isn't clearance for a PCI card? The SB Live is a half-length PCI card, correct? The end of it doesn't even hang over the edge of the PCI slot . . .

Maybe they're using motherboards with integrated sound, and this is an excuse?

What they mean is, it could be too large for the case or computer. My system has a enlight case and i have a sblive value, and i have a 2coolpccooler, and it dosent fit beacuse of the sound card sticking out. I bet gateway has some problem to fit it in the case

Maybe Gateway sells different systems in the UK. Here, they are switching to a Socket A board with the VIA chipset. Some models still use the older Slot-A board which is based on AMD's chipset. Either configuration is available with the SB Live Value or the SB 128D as a choice for the sound card. The systems come in a pretty standard ATX mid-tower case. Although the higher-end models come with a newer-design mid-tower case.
