Gateway... standard ATX form factor?

Do Gateway machines use ATX, or are they on some arbitrary thing so they can screw you out of more money by making you buy one of their PSUs?

I put 512 MB of RAM and a 9800 Pro in mine, and I think the weakness of the PSU is causing stability issues. (I originally had 256 MB of RAM and a MX440; now 768 and the 9800Pro.)

While Gateway has used the standard pin out connections of the ATX spec, they have been known to use non standard sized power supplies. I've wedged a standard unit in some models of them, but that is not saying yours will accept it. The other thing too, is what form factor is your case? Smaller ones used 2 different sizes of Small Form Factor (SFF) power supplies. In the larger SFF unit, there are replacement units in the 350 watt range. The best way of finding out is to borrow a standard size ATX and see if it fits.

Quick related question: Does ATX also refer to the size of other parts, or should I have just asked if the Gateway will accept standard-sized PSUs?

I got in 2002, but I'll be damned if I can remember the model number. Obviously it's not on the website to be easily found. Since I've got a regular sized PSU I guess I'll just open up the box and see if it fits or not.

Here's hoping.
